The Church provides a weekday,
non-sectarian Nursery and Pre-school program whose mission is to be a
community service in the care of children, not only in Chappaqua, but
throughout the greater region.
Play Care was started in 1971 as a “drop-in” baby-sitting service,
allowing mother’s the opportunity to participate in various community
events and activities. It has progressed to become a state licensed day
care facility with over 100 children, a full time Director and a large
staff of teachers and aides. Play Care is the only facility that offers
parents the ability to enroll their child in any combination of days or
sessions.
The program welcomes children ages 2 months through 5 years and is
licensed by the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
Morning and afternoon sessions are offered along with a lunchtime
program. Play Care follows the Chappaqua school district calendar.
Classes use computers as part of their curricula, and students are given
individual instruction time. The enclosed playground provides a safe
place for children to play during the recess period.
Classes participate in special programs each week, including creative
movement and music. Additional programs are offered throughout the year,
including visits from the local Fire, Ambulance and Police departments,
the Norwalk Maritime Aquarium, a petting zoo and the Audubon Society.
Every spring, myopia screenings are performed to ensure the children’s
eye health.
Play Care has special performances for parents, and a graduation in June
for all those going on to kindergarten in the fall. Holidays of diverse
cultures are celebrated along with special days throughout the year when
everyone wears the same color, or their pajamas, or a unique hat, etc.
Play Care is a self-supporting program. Revenues earned beyond operating
expenses are contributed to the church budget. |
