Women's Fellowship
Society |
|
This women’s group had previously
played a major part of our church’s history, but had disbanded in the
1980’s due to changes in the lifestyle of our membership. In 2004,
the Women's Fellowship Society was re-established to foster the fellowship among women within our
church, however, all are welcome to participate.
Many different types of events are organized each
year to meet the needs of our members and friends, and strongly
encourage the fellowship that is the backbone of our congregation.
There are "strictly fun" events such as game
nights, a wine tasting or the annual Christmas Ornament Swap.
Creativity and education is mixed in along with the fellowship during
craft or cooking evenings. Guest speakers have taught us more
about Nutrition and Stress Release Meditation.
Benevolence projects and fundraisers for those in
need are the heart of the Women’s Fellowship Society. We have raised
money and collected goods for several charities, and worked side-by-side
with many local organizations and other church boards and committees
within our church. |
Live Art Auction
Since the previous
year's art auction was such a big hit, the
Women’s Fellowship Society's
sponsored another art auction as it's 2007
fundraising event. It was titled
“Art for the Planet and
its People”.
The proceeds from auction sales benefited Neighbor's Link, Open Door
Family Medical Centers and The Sierra Club. |

A Benefit for the People of Darfur
This event, held on April 18, 2007 and billed as a Second Ladies'
Night Out, was co-sponsored with the Board of Mission & Service.
It was an appeal to collective consciences to join with an alliance of
170 faith based advocacy and humanitarian organizations working to end
the genocide in Darfur,
www.SaveDarfur.org.
This wonderful benefit raised
over $2,500.
Dr. Pamela Blair, psychotherapist, spiritual counselor and author,
spoke about
women re-envisioning their lives for the road ahead.
The evening consisted of practitioners in the healing arts and
therapies including
Massage
therapist Kathy Bueti, Kundalini yoga expert Sandra Perlow, Pilates
demonstrations by Jill Shapiro
and Reverend Katy Cates led
hypnotic therapy.
The evening closed with Richard Levine, a photographer/photojournalist
who has traveled to Darfur, worked with the International Medical Corps
to provide food & water & build camps for the refugees from
Darfur.

Live Art Auction featuring "A Taste of Our Towns"
The
Women’s Fellowship Society's
2006
fundraising event was titled
“From Cradle to Elder
Care: Art for Outreach”.
We had approximately 100 guests in
attendance. The donated food samplings were delicious, and the Silent
Auction gift baskets containing goods and gift certificates from local
merchants were fabulous. The Art Auction was a fun event that greatly
exceeded our expectations for our two benevolences. We gave $4,000
each to the
Children’s Defense
Fund and Friends and Relatives of Institutionalized Aged (FRIA). |

"Momsense"
In the
fall of 2005, the Women’s Fellowship Society sponsored our first major
fundraising event. It featured the musical comedy revue, Momsense,
www.momsenseshow.com, and was very successful. Over
200 people from surrounding communities were welcomed to our church for
a fun evening with great food and entertainment. We also offered
boutique shopping with eleven vendors and a wonderful raffle of fourteen
overstuffed Gift Baskets,
which included merchandise from area merchants and church members. We raised over
$6,000 to benefit The Northern Westchester Women’s Shelter, the Autism
Society of America, and the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice
(RCRC). |
