Worship Information

Worship

Worship at the First Congregational Church takes place each Sunday morning at 10:00 am and is at the heart of the local congregational life.

The ancient testimonies of Scripture and Faith are made ours, here and now.  We gather together in the presence of God with thanksgiving, to confess, receive pardon, to hear and accept the word, and to respond with our very lives.  We are sent into the world with the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit to be disciples and live as new creatures in God's new creation.

Music

Music has always been an integral part of the worship service.  See the Music page for more information.

Children

Child care for infants and toddlers is available beginning at 9:45 am in the Crib Room.

Children stay with their parents for the beginning of the worship service.  They are invited to come forward to the altar steps for the Children's Message.  A Giving Jar is available for children who wish to make a donation. The money collected during the Children's Message benefits the benevolence chosen by our children, as part of our Church School's mission project.
After the Children's Message, children from age two through grade seven proceed to their Church School classrooms.  See the Church School page for more information about our children's educational programs, including those for Confirmation and High School students.

Remembering

Memories can be sacred.  I believe keeping alive memories of people who have gone is a wonderful way to honor the lives that they lead and to learn from and be inspired still by those we miss now.   Almost each Sunday we remember someone who has meant something to this congregation or meant something to someone in our congregation.  If there is someone that you would like to pray for on any given Sunday please talk to the minister before hand or on that Sunday so that we can recognize all these memories and honor them appropriately.

Communion

Communion at the First Congregational Church is celebrated during worship on the first Sunday of each month.

Through communion we receive symbols of God's gift in Christ's sacrifice and welcome the power of God's Holy Spirit into our lives. We are forgiven, refreshed and made whole as individuals and as members together, in Christ's body.

The policy of this church in regard to communion traditionally is to have a free and open communion.  The invitation is extended to everyone who is at the service.  Access to God's table is not to be denied anyone who wishes to partake of the sacrament.  Children are also included in the invitation.  However, the decision whether children shall take communion shall be left solely to the parents of the children.

Baptism

Through baptism, the church acknowledges God's grace shown in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and present in the new life of a person among us.

At the First Congregational Church, the child to be baptized is represented by adult sponsors, who speak for the child until the child can take his/her own vows after confirmation class.

Prayers

After the sermon there is a time for concerns.  Please give the names of those people for whom you would like the congregation to pray.  This is also a time to remember the passing of loved ones.  Give these names as well so these names can be offered.

Prayer request cards are in the pew racks.  You may put completed cards in the offering plate.
